Environmental Policy

Earth Moves has strong environmental aims; this is expressed in our practice, purchases and educational programme. Earth Moves is organised as a, not-for-profit co-operative with a range of charitable activities and interventions. As a co-op, we sign up to the internationally agreed 7 principles of cooperation and follow a set of values and ethics which include self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality equity, solidarity, openness, social responsibility, caring for others and concern for the community.

Earth Moves acknowledges the connection between the climate and other environmental crises and the threat of current and future homelessness, disease, food and water shortages and poverty for millions of people around the world, as well as the major damage being caused to our natural eco-systems.

Earth Moves promotes education - and through education to facilitate awareness. Providing life-enhancing education programs promotes personal, ecological, community and social-ecological development.

Earth Moves Cooperative therefore recognises its responsibility to reduce its carbon and environmental footprints and formally commits itself to be an environmentally responsible organisation.

We consider the most environmentally friendly alternatives to the following;

Electricity

Water

Transport fuel

Gas

Total waste production

Furthermore;

All of our plant-based waste is converted to compost. Plastics are recycled

100 % of our meals are vegan or vegetarian meals.

Food is grown without chemicals and towards permaculture guidelines

Biodiversity is celebrated as well as human diversity

Earth Moves will ask all our current and future suppliers for their environmental policies and for evidence of implementation of such policies and indicate that such performance will be used as criteria for supplier selection.

We will seek to have relevant environmental clauses included in any future contracts agreed with outside bodies. Earth Moves will include environmental responsibility training in any future staff training programmes, especially for those involved in providing advice to vulnerable clients.

Earth Moves will observe existing environmental legislation as a minimum standard and seek to out-perform current legislative requirements where practical.
